Russian Fort Elizabeth
Built in 1817, this fort was to be a fueling station and also to establish a trading post for Russia in the Pacific Ocean. Located o the bluffs above the mouth of the Wiamea River the fort's shape was an uneven octagon 300 by 400 feet with 20 foot high stone walls, that varied in thickness from 25 to 40 feet. Though there is not much left to see it is considered a National Historic Landmark.
